Brighton & Hove Albion - better known as Brighton - is an excellent, inclusive community club with a plethora of positive associations. Founded in 1901, the club is nicknamed ‘The Seagulls’ or ‘Albion’ and has endured some excellent moments in their history. After promotion to the Premier League in 2017, Brighton fans will be hoping that the club can push on and start to challenge towards the top-half of the table opposed to fighting for survival.
The Premier League is one of the toughest divisions in world football. With the financial resources the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea have at their disposal, it makes it a difficult task for clubs like Brighton to close the gap and regularly compete. However, the Seagulls have had some impressive victories against the best clubs in England and now it is time to make it more consistent.
Overall, Brighton has struggled to accumulate much physical success in the club’s history in terms of trophies and silverware. The Seagulls have finished runners-up of the Second Division - now known as the Championship - on two occasions, but have never won the division. The closest Brighton have come to domestic success came in 1983, but unfortunately lost in the FA Cup final to Manchester United at Wembley Stadium.
However, in 1910 Brighton did win the FA Charity Shield and are currently 14-time Sussex Senior Challenge Cup winners. The club does lack any European success thus far and they will be hoping to rectify that if they club can find more stability in the Premier League and push on to compete with the ‘bigger’ clubs in the division.
